Second point: In many instances people claim to be blessed by the gods. The same goes for Aeneas, Achilles and Odysseus. The difference with Aeneas though, is that unlike Achilles and Odysseus, Aeneas doesn't gain super natural strength. He doesn't get awesome powers or more clarity/wisdom, his life is just constantly being altered or controlled by the gods. So what does it mean in the Aeneid to be blessed by the gods?

Venus was definitely a blessing to Aeneas. Because of her love Aeneas lives through the battles. It was her who convinced Vulcan to make him special weapons. I feel like the gods are kind of like the celebrities we have today. Even though the stuff they do isn't necessarily special or hard for them we've built them up to so much that everything they do is just amazing. We sometimes aspire to be like them and therefore we want believe that they are infallible. I think that then, to be blessed by the gods, was to simply just have them recognize your existence.

Wow! Great point! But does one want them to? I mean, because Venus wanted to guarantee Aeneas' safety, She made Dido fall in love with him and because of that, Dido ends up killing herself. Sure, having the gods in your favor has it's perks, such as awesome weapons and long term survival, but a lot of people are going to die as soon as they start intervening. Once they recognize you, your life probably won't end very well. A lot of the Greek story's prove that point.
